eXtended WordNet Domains

eXtended WordNet Domains (XWND) (Gonzalez-Agirre et al. 2012a, 2012b) is an ongoing work aiming to automatically improve WordNet Domains. First, the original domain labels aligned to WordNet 1.6 have been projected to WordNet 3.0 using the automatic mappings across WordNet versions. Since the automatic mapping is not complete (there are new synsets, changes in the structure, etc.), many synsets have been left unlabeled. Thus, we carried out a simple inheritance process through the nominal and verbal hierarchies. Finally, we applied UKB to propagate the domain information through the WordNet structure. We compared the quality of both resources (the original labelling and the new one) in a common Word Sense Disambiguation task. The results show that the new labelling clearly outperform the original one by a large margin.
